The composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has confirmed the death of his 43-year-old Grammy-nominated eldest son.
The composer and record producer Nicholas Lloyd Webber passed away in Basingstoke Hospital in Hampshire while undergoing treatment for stomach cancer.
Lord Webber, 75, posted on Twitter, “His entire family is gathered and we are all profoundly bereft.”
Nick has been transferred to a hospice, according to Lord Lloyd Webber, whose popular musicals include Cats.
On Saturday night, he posted on Twitter, saying: “I am saddened to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick passed away a few hours ago.”
For Lord Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella, his son was nominated for a Grammy in the musical theatre category together with his father, David Wells, and David Zippel.
Also, he composed the music for a The Little Prince adaption.
The information came after Lord Lloyd Webber announced in a video on Thursday that his son was recovering from “this first attack of pneumonia” brought on by his “ghastly” disease.
The composer, who also created the music for Jesus Christ Superstar and The Phantom of the Opera, expressed his gratitude in the video to the Ukrainians who sent him a Cats t-shirt after learning that his kid was in serious condition.
It’s quite moving, he added, and despite everything they are going through, they have been incredibly considerate of Nick.
“I’m going to see Nick right away, and I’m going to give him all of the wonderful wishes I’ve had for him from everywhere all over the world,” she said.
